William Kentridge (South African, b. 1955) is a multimedia artist known primarily for his films, prints and drawings. His works on paper accompany his work as an opera set designer and director, as well as a film animator. Although politically motivated by a life spent in South Africa during apartheid, Kentridge also finds inspiration in avant-garde theater and the art history of satire. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY; Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Broad, Los Angeles; Guggenheim Museum, NY; and more.
