Jowita begins her artistic practice in nature. With each journey into the forest, she delves into the depths of the thicket uncovering and discovering the secrets of the understory. Much like a scientist Jowita studies and collects flora specimens. In her studio, she employs eco-printing techniques using high-temperature steam that unearths unique colors from her collected treasures. She further experiments with mixed media, painting, and, drawing, revealing a final work of art that reflects the interconnection and vitality of the undergrowth within the ecosystem.
Regarding her practice, Wyszomirska states: “I approach each artwork as if tending to a garden—allowing it to grow while guiding its evolution through painting, drawing, and collage.”
Jowita Wyszomirska is an interdisciplinary artist working in mixed-media drawing and large-scale installations. She loves walking, cycling, and growing plants, which profoundly influence her artistic practice. Blending representation and abstraction, her work explores landscapes through an aesthetic and ecological lens. Wyszomirska received her BFA from Illinois State University and MFA from the University of Maryland. She has exhibited nationally in solo and two-person exhibitions. Her honors include residency fellowships at the Good Hart Artist Residency in Michigan, the Andy Warhol Preserve Artist in Residence program in New York, the Wrangell Artist Residency in Alaska, the Jentel Foundation in Wyoming, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska, and the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Italy. Numerous private, corporate, and institutional collections, including recent acquisitions by the Baltimore Museum of Art, collect her work.
